Clay's 48 years of competitive swimming and 26 years of swimming instruction makes him uniquely qualified for all swimming levels. Both a competitor and a coach, Clay understands your goals and knows how to help you achieve them.
A local Washingtonian, Clay was recently regarded as the best Montgomery County Swim League swimmer of all time in the Washington Post. As a young swimmer, he was the National Age Group (15-18) record holder in the 100 yard backstroke, the World Record holder in the 100 short course meters backstroke and the 400 meter Medley Relay and placed 4th in the 100 meter backstroke at the Pan American games in 1979.
At the University of Texas at Austin, his accomplishments include:
3 time NCAA 400 Medley Relay Champion, 1980,1981,1982
Member 1982 US World Championships Swim Team in Equador
Member US World University Games Swim Team 1981 in Romania
As a Masters Swimmer, his achievements include:
16 National and 15 World Records.
Was named a 2002 All-Star. The top swimmer in 40-44 age group.
Head Coach of the Montgomery Ancient Mariners Masters swim program since 1993
